Hello from the Land of maple leaf!

I moved here recently for work and was inundated by the entry procedures and travel requirements due to the COVID pandemic. The most overwhelming part was the 14-day mandatory quarantine.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites at Toronto airport which is a government-approved quarantine hotel as part of the 3-day mandatory hotel stopover. The room was neat and clean with a nice view of the Toronto airport. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were delivered to the door, which ensured the guests to stay in their room at all times.

On the fourth day, I moved to Homewood suites at Toronto airport to complete my remaining quarantine. The initial days passed in the excitement of moving to a new country. The reality of quarantine kicked in on the fifth day when the 4th of July long weekend stared at me. It was the first time in ages I didn't have a trip or outdoor activity planned. In fact, due to the isolation, I couldn't even step out of the room to get some fresh air. I kept myself busy by calling family and friends, watching Netflix, etc. But soon I even ran out of new movies/series to watch. I decided to motivate myself to make productive use of this time at hand. So what all could I do in the confinement of a room? I came up with a list:

  • Start a medium publication: taking inspiration from Zulie Rane
  • Keep moving: Tried new home workouts thanks to Blogilates
  • Read: Started with Storyworthy by Matthew Dicks based on Ali Abdaal’s suggestions (check out the list here)
  • Staying Connected with Friends and Family
  • Daily Affirmations and Manifestations

All these things helped me to have a positive outlook towards the quarantine. I plan on adding something new every day to this list, all the while having fun with this ‘Me Time’.
